One big reason the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl is because they weren’t afraid to keep making additions to their roster. Even before the season began the Eagles traded for Timmy Jerningan. Then Philadelphia made another move right before the trade deadline by acquiring Jay Ajayi. Howie Roseman was clearly aggressive all year long and those moves ultimately panned out in the Eagles favor. Jay Ajayi came to the city of Brotherly Love and really solidified himself as the first option in the offensive backfield. On film it’s evident that Ajayi gets a head of steam rather quickly. By running fearlessly the former Dolphin puts himself in favorable situations. Defenders are usually caught off guard by Ajayi’s quick initial burst and he can usually make a couple of would be tackles miss too. Those abilities really added another dynamic to this offense and the last thing that has to be mentioned is Ajayi was special on screen plays as well. When a defensive line gets to far upfield the halfback screen allows an offense to take advantage of that over pursuit. In the open field Jay Ajayi can do some damage and this was a great pick up for a fourth round draft pick. Roseman got so much value out of that deal and it ended up being a big reason this team put together such a terrific run. With LeGarrette Blount departing for Detroit Ajayi will have a chance to take on an even bigger role in 2018. Not to mention Carson Wentz is going to be recovering from a major knee injury which leads one to believe Doug Pederson will rely heavily on the running game. All of those factors play right into Jay Ajayi’s lap and it’s very possible the London born Ajayi rushes for 1,000 yards this year. There will be a lot of number 36 jerseys at Lincoln Financial Field this season and rightfully so. Without Jay Ajayi it’s hard to say if the Eagles would have won the Super Bowl or not?
