This year’s class of rookie running backs have been extremely impressive especially with guys like Kareem Hunt and Leonard Fournette leading the charge. As good as those two players have been New Orleans Saints’ Running Back Alvin Kamara deserves a little bit of recognition simply because he is taking his dual threat abilities to the next level. Not only has Alvin Kamara been good on the ground rushing for 546 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Saints rookie has also contributed 548 rushing yards and 4 touchdown receptions through the air. This guy is a very special talent coming out of the backfield and catching passes. Kamara blends so well with Drew Brees and Sean Payton’s offensive game plan to the point it’s almost been an art-form watching this kid operate on Sundays. Alvin Kamara is only 22 years old so he has his whole career still ahead of him and he’s been a big factor in the Saints 8-3 record so far. When you add a dynamic player like Kamara to an already explosive offensive group like the Saints good things tend to happen and there’s just so much you can do with number 41’s skill set. Swing passes and screens are Kamara’s true calling in life and when the rookie has the ball in his hands look out because he is going to make defenders miss. It’s gotten to the point where Alvin Kamara is more than just a football player, he is an entertainer on the football field. It will be tough to dethrone Hunt and Fournette but if Kamara keeps playing electric football over the next five games anything is possible. Coincidentally Kamara’s success will coincide with the Saints ability to win games so expect Payton to feed this guy often. Regardless of the fact that Kamara is Mark Ingram’s back up, they will utilize both players down the stretch.
