The Atlanta Falcons have always had a lot of weapons on offense. They’re fortunate to have Julio Jones who’s one of the top wide receivers in the NFL. They also have Calvin Ridley and he’s shown plenty of promise throughout his first two seasons. But despite all of these playmakers. For some reason Atlanta can’t put it all together.
At some point we have to look at Matt Ryan and whether he’s doing a good enough job? And it doesn’t feel like he is because Ryan isn’t winning enough games. His playoff record is 4-6 and outside of the Super Bowl run back in 2017. Ryan has always found a way to come up short. What that tells you is this guy struggles against elite competition. And the Falcons should’ve gotten more from Ryan with all of the help they’ve given him. There’s quarterbacks in the league that dream of having a supporting cast like Ryan has. Yet he still struggles to protect the football. He’s got almost twice as many interceptions than Aaron Rodgers has throughout his career. So why are we so afraid to re-evaluate Ryan and give him any criticism? It’s gotten to the point where all of these younger quarterbacks are surpassing Matt Ryan. With players like Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson recently coming out of the draft. How much longer can the Falcons wait around? Because Watson and Jackson would be much better than Ryan has been with Jones and Ridley out wide.
