The Atlanta Falcons have been known for their offense the last couple of years but it was their defense that paved the way in their Wild Card win over the Los Angeles Rams. Deion Jones continues to show why he is one of the best linebackers in all of football recording a team high 10 tackles for Atlanta. Keanu Neal was also very tough for the Dirty Birds he contributed 7 tackles in what would go on to be a great defensive night for the Falcons. Despite the fact that Dan Quinn’s team was this impressive on defense, Los Angeles still managed to have a player go over the 100 yard rushing mark (Todd Gurley) and the 100 yard receiving mark (Robert Woods). That shows how explosive the Rams are but somehow Atlanta was able to persevere all of that. Matt Ryan threw for 218 yards, 1 touchdown, and no interceptions in a decent offensive performance. Devonta Freeman looked really tough at times running over defenders and amassing 66 yards plus a touchdown along the way. Julio Jones hauled in 94 yards and 1 touchdown through the air so it’s not like Atlanta didn’t do anything offensively it was just more about the defense overall. Jared Goff threw for 259 yards, 1 touchdown, and no interceptions. Robert Woods’ 142 yards was also an extremely dominant showing for the fifth year receiver. Like stated above Todd Gurley had a good night rushing for 101 yards too but it wasn’t the same Rams offense that propelled them to 11 wins in the regular season. Atlanta on the other hand will have a head full of steam heading into the divisional round. The Falcons have a lot playoff experience and they are hitting their stride at the right time. The NFC has to be on notice because this is a team that is trending upward when it really matters. That’s a good sign for Atlanta moving forward.
