There was plenty of speculation whether or not Julio Jones would play this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings if he didn’t get a new deal? While Jones himself seemed to go back and forth about what his plan was. The Atlanta Falcons stepped up and made it easy for Jones by signing him to a 3-year $66M contract extension which will make him the highest paid receiver in the league.
This was a smart move because Atlanta couldn’t afford to fall to 0-1 without their top playmaker on the field. The competition in the NFL is way too stiff and even one early loss can be the difference between making the playoffs or watching them at home. Not to mention the Falcons finished 2018 on a three-game winning streak and they need Jones to pick up right where they left off. If all of this good news wasn’t enough the sixth overall pick in the 2011 draft also said he wants to be an Atlanta Falcon for life. Jones talked about how much respect he has for the community and the city itself. Most of it seemed genuine and it starting to look more and more like that’s the way things are heading. Make no mistake about it this is a big win for this organization and now Jones can sleep good at night knowing he earns more annually than any other receiver. Now its about putting all of this behind them and winning some football games.
