Last year Baker Mayfield was playing with a lackluster offensive line. Everyone wanted to blame Mayfield’s struggles on his off the field behavior or the fact that he shot too many commercials. But the truth is he was sacked 40 times and Mayfield was constantly running for his life. Now with the additions of Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills to their offensive line. Cleveland’s pass protection will improve tenfold. And who will benefit the most from better blocking up front? It’s Baker Mayfield. With a clean pocket Mayfield will be able to show off why he was the number one overall pick just a couple of years ago. We know that means Mayfield will use his arm strength to attack the middle of the field. Which has been where he does most of his damage. Hopefully with more time to let the play develop. Mayfield will also be able to take more shots deep. That was one area that was lacking from his game in 2019. But that’s expected from a quarterback that can’t get through his progressions. All of these things will change when the season arrives. And it indicates Mayfield could recapture his top form.
