Okay let’s not get too excited it was only one preseason game but there were a few takeaways that became obvious. First and foremost Cleveland beat Washington 30-10 and that shows that Freddie Kitchens and the coaching staff are doing something right.
Kitchens is the opposite of Bill Belichick in the sense that he brings an outgoing coaching style to the table and the Browns respond well to it. The other major observation was how well Baker Mayfield looked after being away from football for the past several months. You never know if a player will become complacent in the off-season but Mayfield came out zipping the ball all over the field. Once his night was done Mayfield finished with 77 yards, 1 touchdown, and a 158 passer rating. The way he energizes that team is amazing and the second year QB will be the driving force behind Cleveland’s success. Yeah John Dorsey acquired all of these weapons who are top tier athletes. However at the center of it all is Baker Mayfield and there’s not many other passers who would be a better fit for this system. Everything is clicking for the Dog Pound and everything is clicking for Mayfield. Which is dangerous for the other 31 teams in the league.
