Ben Roethlisberger knew the Pittsburgh Steelers had to keep their good momentum going and he did everything he could in a 52-21 win over the Carolina Panthers. Roethlisberger threw for 328 yards and 5 touchdowns completely dissecting Ron Rivera’s secondary. If the Steelers continue to play like this they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs. Outside of Roethlisberger James Conner rushed for 65 yards and 1 touchdown. Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster were also very good. Brown hauled in 96 yards and 1 touchdown. Smith-Schuster recorded 90 yards and 1 TD so everything was clicking for the the home team. Carolina struggled to protect Cam Newton for most the night. Newton ended up being sacked 5 different times and on one play he was on the verge of being safetied when he threw an interception to Vince Williams. Williams returned that pick for a touchdown and it was off to the races for Pittsburgh. Newton ended up with 193 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception really struggling to buy anytime in the pocket. If there was any player who did rise to occasion for the Panthers it was definitely Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey rushed for 77 yards and 1 touchdown plus he added 61 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns through the air. No one else brought it though and it’s hard to win when only one guy shows up with his game face on. Then there was the defensive side of things and it was evident that Vince Williams had the best performance. Besides that touchdown he chipped in 4 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 TFL. Cameron Heyward was the other star defender for the Steelers. Heyward tallied up 3 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 TFLs. Eric Reid led the way for Carolina with 9 tackles. Luke Kuechly was solid too he had 8 tackles and 1 TFL. However Pittsburgh improves to 6-2-1 and they’re on fire at the moment. Nobody wants to play this team and they could be even better if they get Le’Veon Bell back in the next couple of weeks.
