Most of the rookies in the NFL are hoping to make a good impression during training camp. Although that wasn’t enough for the Carolina Panthers first round pick Brian Burns. The 6’5” 249 pound defensive end is very quick off the edge and he showed that by recording 2 sacks in his first ever preseason game.
It’s his ability to go around the edge and use a dip move to get to the quarterback that stands out the most. Burns also has a nice spin move and it’s obvious he’s a finesse player above all. The other thing the former Seminole does really well is come down the line and help out in run support. Most of the time that backside pursuit is what separates the good defenses from the great ones. There’s no doubt that Brian Burns will help this group play faster on Sunday’s and that’s all you can really ask for after taking him so high in the draft. And with what he’s already shown against the Chicago Bears it’s a real possibility that Burns could be one of the stars out of the 2019 draft class. Panthers GM Marty Hurney looks like a genius for ultimately choosing Burns and Carolina will be much better because of it. This team will be very close to making the playoffs and Brian Burns could be the missing piece that gets them there.
