The Los Angeles Rams are looking to regroup after falling short in last year’s Super Bowl. The hope is to gear up and go on another deep playoff run. If that’s going to happen then Aaron Donald will have to pick up right where he left off. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is coming off a 20.5 sacks season and that’s outstanding production for one individual.
To be honest nobody can block Donald and he’s certainly the backbone of the Rams defense. Maybe the most entertaining thing about this guy is how well rounded he is. Donald has so many different ways of beating offensive linemen and his favorite seems to be his swim move. It allows him to slip into the backfield very quickly and those plays usually result in sacks or TFLs. Plus Donald has been working with Demarcus Ware to learn some other pass rushing techniques. That set of tools will make Aaron Donald even more dangerous is 2019 and it just goes to show that even the best are constantly improving themselves. The 28 year old 3-4 defensive end also showed up to OTAs this year to get in game shape heading into the new season. Doing drill work in the Spring ends up being great cardio training and that translates into a high motor on game day. He’s already fast for a 280 pounder but now Donald will be able to maintain his output for much longer because of all of those reps in these voluntary practices. There’s no doubt this is a great sign for Los Angeles and it’s much needed. Ndamukong Suh is gone and the Rams defense got older. So it’s good to see Donald stepping up and doing everything he can to make sure the team is on the right track with training camp quickly approaching.
