The Minnesota Vikings have to stick with Case Keenum at quarterback and it’s really not even up for debate:

Recently the Minnesota Vikings have gotten Teddy Bridgewater back from a knee injury and that has caused speculation about who the starting QB should be moving forward? While it’s easy to debate whether Case Keenum or Bridgewater should be the guy for this team one has to remember that Keenum has led the Vikings to a 7-2 record. When Sam Bradford went down this team faced a sink or swim moment and Keenum kept this team’s head above water in Bradford’s time away. All those repetitions in training camp and in games have prepared Case Keenum well and that’s why it’s clear he has to remain at the helm for the rest of the season. As great of a comeback story as Teddy Bridgewater has been he still has to get reacquainted with the game speed of the NFL. That transition will take a little bit of time and Minnesota can’t afford to stumble while Bridgewater gets up to pace. The Vikings are currently leading the NFC North and there’s an old saying “if it’s not broke don’t fix it.” Mike Zimmer surely understands this and that’s why it’s almost absurd to think that there is a quarterback controversy surrounding this team at the moment. Keenum has put together an impressive 11 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions for the season. There’s no doubt if Case Keenum wasn’t the Vikings back up when Bradford went down this team would have been in a lot of trouble. So based on everything Keenum has been able to accomplish it’s obvious that he has to lead this team for the rest of the year. Bridgewater has to keep working towards becoming a starting quarterback in this league again and that’s going to take longer than just recovering from an injury. On top of that Keenum is putting up better numbers than Bridgewater did before he got injured so it’s really a no brainer for the Vikings at this point.

Cam Newton knew he was playing on national television this week and boy did he raise the bar against the Miami Dolphins. Newton threw for 254 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions proving that he can still be a dominant force in the National Football League. Not only was Newton brilliant through the air he also managed to rack up 95 yards on the ground. Those dual threat abilities help make the Carolina offense tick and when Cam Newton plays like this it’s almost impossible to stop this football team. Jonathan Stewart ran pretty tough in this match up as well he finished the day with 110 yards. That big day on the ground gave the Panthers a lot of balance offensively which went along way in setting the tone. The other offensive skill player that delivered big time for Carolina was Devin Funchess. Funchess hauled in 2 touchdowns and 92 yards showing that he can assume the number one receiver role in Kelvin Benjamin’s absence. The combination of Newton and Funchess will be vital to this team’s chances down the stretch of the season. Christian McCaffrey had the best night of his career as well he finished with 2 touchdowns one through the air while the other was a rushing TD. It was pretty obvious that Carolina had their offense rolling all night long and that’s without out mentioning Cameron Artis-Payne and Ed Dickson’s scores either. Jay Cutler did all he could do for the Dolphins Cutler threw for 213 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Kenyan Drake ran hard in a losing effort too he finished the night with 82 yards and 1 rushing touchdown. Jarvis Landry and Julius Thomas both caught touchdown receptions for Miami’s aerial attack. There just wasn’t enough points from Adam Gase’s team in the end. Luke Kuechly was the Panthers most notable defender he put up 6 tackles and 1 interception. James Bradberry contributed 4 tackles to the winning effort as well. Miami on the other hand was led by T.J McDonald who record 9 tackles. Cordrea Tankersly chipped in 6 tackles for the Dolphins too. When it was all said and done the Panthers showed they are for real this year and it almost feels like former General Manger Dave Gettleman deserves some praise for the additions he made to this team this past off-season.

Adrian Clayborn played the best game of his career and led the Falcons over the Cowboys 27-7:

That Atlanta Falcons got a dominant win over the Dallas Cowboys but none of that would have been possible without Defensive End Adrian Clayborn. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Clayborn he is a 7th year player out of the University of Iowa. Clayborn had two sacks on the year coming into the Cowboys game but he really raised the bar when he put together a 6 sack, 6 tackle, 2 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery game against Dallas. That is easily the most dominant defensive showing that we’ve seen in 2017 and only Chiefs Linebacker Derrick Thomas has had more sacks in a single contest (7). It was the perfect time for Clayborn to play out of his mind because now the Falcons have a 5-4 record for the season. That gives Atlanta a lot of hope moving forward and now this team has their sights set on getting back to the postseason. The Saints are leading the NFC South division with a 7-2 record so far. Therefore the Falcons will most likely need to secure a wildcard spot to get back to the big dance. Right now there are 10 teams in the NFC with winning records that are vying for those playoff spots. So Atlanta has to build upon the good momentum they had against the Cowboys and win out the rest of their games. One thing is for sure if Adrian Clayborn can continue to play like he did against Dallas there’s no doubt it will significantly improve Atlanta’s chances for success. Rushing the passer is such a key formula for success in the NFL and when one players has 6 sacks it almost guarantees his team will end up winning. Give Adrian Clayborn credit he really raised the bar this week and it was a lot of fun to watch.

The New England Patriots outclassed the Denver Broncos for a 41-16 win:

At the beginning of the season it felt like the New England Patriots might have regressed a bit but not anymore. The Patriots throttled the Broncos 41-16 and suddenly New England looks like a team that could cakewalk all the way back to the Super Bowl. That’s largely because Tom Brady has elevated his game he threw for 266 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions in the victory. Dion Lewis continues to find his stride as well, he rushed for 55 yards and 1 touchdown for the Pats’ offense. Rex Burkhead, Dwayne Allen, and James White all caught a touchdown pass from Brady too. It’s big plays like that which make this offensive unit tick and the trouble with guarding the Patriot is the fact that so many different players contribute to their scoring. New England has three tight ends that can all present a match up headache (Gronkowski, Bennett, Allen). Dion Lewis, Rex Burkhead, and James White all bring different abilities to the running back position as well. So you can see that New England believes in a committee effort at several different positions which makes them so tough to defend. As far as the Broncos go, Brock Osweiler threw for 221 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. While Denver Running Back C.J Anderson ran for a team high of 54 yards. Emmanuel Sanders was extremely explosive in the passing game he hauled in 6 receptions for 137 yards. Demaryius Thomas did all he could for the Broncos too he caught 1 touchdown reception. Kyle Van Noy was the Patriots most productive defender with 5 tackles. Patrick Chung added 4 tackles and 1 interception as well. Justin Simmons was the top defender for Denver he had 10 tackles and 1 sack. Brandon Marshall played well also he had 10 tackles for the Broncos. New England improves to an impressive 7 wins and 2 losses for the 2017 season. Bill Belichick’s team keeps evolving and now look like a team that could repeat as champions.
