The Oakland Raiders started off Thursday Night Football on the right foot and never looked back. Right away Erik Harris picked off Philip Rivers and set Oakland up with a 3-0 lead. From a preparation standpoint it felt like the Raiders were a little bit sharper than the Los Angeles Chargers and it’s no surprise that the silver and black would pull out a 26-24 win. It’s those closely contested battles which really separate the boys from the men in the NFL. Clearly Jon Gruden’s enthusiasm is working because the Raiders are improving every single week.
And now this ball club looks like a playoff team. Harris would go on to have another interception that went for a pick-six. Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby also did a great job of getting off their blocks and rushing Rivers. So the defense is clearly making strides. However collectively Oakland seems to be more disciplined, they’re also establishing a winning culture, and those are things that eventually lead you to the postseason or a Super Bowl. Then to cap it all off Gruden went around the whole stadium and gave out hugs and high fives to all of the fans. You can just feel it this is a better team than they’ve been in the past. Some might argue that the Chargers have more talent than the Raiders but you could see how much coaching matters. Everyone made fun of Jon Gruden a year ago but now he’s the one having the last laugh. The joke was on him last year but now it’s on anyone who doubted him.
