When a football game starts there’s almost a feeling out process that happens between the two opponents. For example last night the Denver Broncos tried to establish a presence on the ground by running the football up the middle. Unfortunately for the Broncos they were often met in the hole by Oakland Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict and that forced them to change their game plan.
To see Burfict out there flowing to the football so easily and acting as a field general for this young defense was incredible. All of those years in Cincinnati may have worn down Burfict a little bit but he seems reinvigorated with Oakland. Part of that is probably because he was born and raised in Los Angeles so being back on the West Coast has to be refreshing for him. This is a great opportunity for the troubled linebacker to clean up his reputation. People view this guy as a dirty player and a loose cannon. Burfict doesn’t feel like he’s intentionally trying to hurt anybody and the best way to fix these problems is by having a productive season with no mishaps. Doing so would also raise his value in the eyes of his employer or any future employers. Right now Oakland has him under contract for one year at $2M. If he plays well and stays out of trouble Burfict could be looking at a two or three year deal for a lot more money.

Make no mistake about it. We could be witnessing a reinvigorated Vontaze Burfict.
