Sam Darnold is extremely talented and there’s no doubt that the New York Jets are holding him back. But if we’re going off stats alone. Daniel Jones’ rookie season was better than both of the years that Darnold has played. He’s shown more in half of the amount of time and that’s something we have to take note of. To step right into the lineup and perform like Jones did. It says a lot about the kind of player he is. And a good rookie year can be a strong indication about what the trajectory of Jones’ career will look like. There’s a huge learning curve for most first year players. Somehow Jones was ahead of the pace and he actually had better stats than Kyler Murray did too. Which was a little surprising since Murray won Rookie of the Year. The last thing that stands out about Jones is how many touchdowns he was able to throw for. The former first round pick has three games with at least four touchdown passes in his career. And Sam Darnold has only done that once. You can begin to see why we have to shed some light on how well this guy has performed. Because the public hasn’t given Jones enough recognition.
