The Kansas City Chiefs knew they had to improve their secondary for the final stretch of the season and Darrelle Revis is the perfect answer. Revis signed a 2 year contract with the Chiefs and will most likely start opposite of Marcus Peters. If Revis can capture his top form which led him to 7 Pro Bowls then this will be a huge steal for this football team. Kansas City has really struggled against the pass and the addition of a veteran corner will allow this team to feel more comfortable from a coverage stand point. When you also add in the fact that Chiefs Defensive Coordinator Bob Sutton has worked with Revis during their time together with the Jets. It makes sense because there isn’t going to be a huge learning curve for Darrelle Revis from a system stand point. Revis not only knows Sutton’s terminology playbook wise he also understands his past coach’s expectations. We saw Jay Cutler come out of retirement to play for his former coach in Miami and really this is a very similar situation. People might not realize it but football is a very mental game and understanding the strategies put forth by a coaching staff can give you a leg up. The other factor for Darrelle Revis is how good of shape he is in? We saw the 32 year old struggle with the speed of the game last season in New York. In order to put those woes behind him Revis is going to have to make sure he has been doing his cardio and wind sprints. By improving his motor and strengthening his fast twitch muscles the former Super Bowl champion (Revis) can turn back the clock a little bit. Maybe the new scenery can also help this guy fall in love with football all over again. Remember there were allegations coming out of the Big Apple that Revis lost his love for the game, a new team and a new environment could reinvigorate him.
