The Denver Broncos had one of the best defenses back in 2016 but now they find themselves coming off two straight years of missing the playoffs. If this team wants to get back to winning they’re going to need to find a way to get a new nucleus of young talent. John Elway has struggled to draft well for most of his time at the helm but he did make a splash this past draft with Bradley Chubb and Courtland Sutton. That could be the start of something good but there needs to be at least three or four more guys that can really give this organization something on game day. When you look at the Jacksonville Jaguars for example they have a bunch of up and coming stars in players like Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack, and Yannick Ngakoue. The Broncos are in complete contrast to that they have several key members of their team that are approaching 30. Derek Wolfe (28 years old), Chris Harris (29 years old), and Von Miller (29 years old) in particular are three stalwarts from the Super Bowl era but they can’t do it if the other young guys around them aren’t good enough. Chubb is definitely going to help but they still need to completely rebuild if they want to be a contender year in and year out. Not only that but soon they’ll have to replace Miller, Harris, and Wolfe so John Elway will have a lot on his plate. Give him a little credit though he finally got it right with the Chubb / Sutton picks and Denver has won a Super Bowl under Elway’s watch. Overall Elway has struggled scouting wise but it would be a huge stretch to say his time as general manager has been unsuccessful. The question is can Elway turn around this franchise’s recent troubles and a lot of that will be revealed when the 2018 season plays out. If Chubb and Sutton under produce though things could go downhill quickly.
