The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a great running back in Doug Martin. Martin finished second in the league last year in rushing yards with 1,402. That total was only topped by Adrian Peterson and that just goes to show the class of athlete Doug Martin has risen to. Martin is a huge part of the Bucs offense because he sets the tone with his tough running style. That causes the defense to start to gamble that the play is going to be a run. As a result Jameis Winston has more windows open in the passing game when Tampa does throw. Which makes life much easier on the Buccaneers second year quarterback in the passing game. Doug Martin has impressed since the first day he came in the league back in 2012 and that is why he has been able to amass 3,806 rushings yards and 20 touchdowns over his 4 season career. This was a player the Bucs didn’t want to see leave this off-season and that is why we seen the team sign Martin to a 5 year $35 million dollar contact extension. That will keep Martin’s elite rushing abilities in a Buccaneers uniform until at least 2021. A great move for Tampa Bay because this guy gives the team the best chance to win. The Buccaneers have a great nucleus of young and talented players. Doug Martin is a big piece of the puzzle and by retaining his talents this team will have a chance to compete in the tough NFC South. The Panthers aren’t going to relinquish their division championship easily. It will be up to Doug Martin to come out and play his best football. It will also be up to Jameis Winston and the other Buccaneers to do their part as well. Just another thing to keep your eye on as the season approaches.
