We always hear about Aaron Rodgers and how much of an impact he has for the Green Bay Packers offense. However there’s another Aaron on this team and that player is also making a name for himself. Third year running back Aaron Jones dismantled the Dallas Cowboys last weekend and he rushed for 4 touchdowns before the day was over. That brings Jones total up to 8 touchdowns for the season which is very impressive considering there’s only been five games. Suddenly Rodgers doesn’t have to put it all on himself.
The offensive linemen up front are winning at the line of scrimmage. They seem to be doing more zone blocking and Jones does a great job of running to daylight. When you watch him play right away it becomes obvious that Jones likes to bounce the football to the outside. What that does is put Jones in matchups against cornerbacks instead of linebackers. Who are much worse at tackling and less aggressive hitters. Matt LaFleur also designed a bubble screen and a halfback screen for Jones so Green Bay uses his speed in space. Clearly this guy is more of a scatback than a powerback and this is just the latest version of the dual-threat running backs we’ve seen lately (Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara, and now Aaron Jones). The defenses are so good these days that you need players like Jones to catch swing passes and stretch the field horizontally. The Packers have that in their arsenal and now they’re 4-1.
