During the 2018 NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks wanted Patrick Mahomes. Ultimately the Seahawks ended up sticking with Russell Wilson because the Chiefs got Mahomes. But there was also rumors that Seattle tried to trade Wilson to the Cleveland Browns in 2019. So there seems to be some evidence that Pete Carroll and G.M Jon Schneider would like to try their luck with another quarterback. And they probably feel like it’s just time to move on from the few remaining players from their Super Bowl run six years ago. Still though it’s hard to turn the page on Wilson because he’s been so good throughout his career. His numbers haven’t declined at all and Wilson hasn’t given the Seahawks any reason to fire him. But Carroll knows his system can develop players very quickly and he’s willing to roll the dice. Seattle can get out of Wilson’s contract after the 2021 season. Which means the decision makers of this team definitely have their eyes on other QBs. And they really believe they can find someone who will be a better fit for their team. No matter how ridiculous that might be. So if Wilson wants to stay in the Pacific Northwest he’ll need to show the coaching staff something over these next two years. Individual stats are off the table. Carroll wants playoff wins instead.
