Did the 49ers set themselves up for success with the Fred Warner deal?

Author: Jon Kuzma

Fred Warner got paid today. The 49ers gave Warner a five-year $95M contract extension. Which is obviously big for San Francisco. Because they’ll keep one of the top linebackers in the NFL. For the foreseeable future. Warner is a heat seeking missile. Who can sniff out plays with his great instincts. The 49ers plan on building around those tools. When Nick Bosa and Warner are both on. It’s amazing how well this defense can run. And how hard they can hit. Losing that tandem is a risk San Francisco couldn’t take. So you have to believe this was the right move for this team. The price tag was high. But that’s the cost of doing business. It’s still a better choice to keep such a talented player. The last thing the 49ers needed was Warner walking out the door. That would’ve hurt their chances of winning. His run stuffing is crucial for them.
