It took Kyler Murray five games but he finally led the Arizona Cardinals to their first win of the season. Arizona ended up beating the Cincinnati Bengals 26-23 and there’s a few takeaways from this victory. The first being that the Cardinals are no longer the NFL’s worst team and at least Kliff Kingsbury is guiding this franchise in the right direction.
It wasn’t a job that could be completely fixed in one off-season but there is some signs of improvement. We also have to talk about Kyler Murray’s impact as a runner. Several times throughout this contest the number one overall pick was able to keep drives alive with his athleticism. There’s another dimension to this offense when he decides to extend the play with his feet and the defense tends to break down when that happens. Russell Wilson has had plenty of success with a similar style of play. You can tell the other guys in that locker room are starting to rally around the first overall pick and it’s possible Kingsbury starts to smooth out some of the wrinkles before the season ends. Confidence can do amazing things for a team and everyone in this organization is starting to believe they can win. Maybe most important of all Kyler Murray knows he’s capable of playing at a high level and that should trickle down to the other 52 guys on the roster. You have to remember this is just the beginning for this current regime and the only way to go from here is up.
