Martellus Bennett might have struggled with the Green Bay Packers but now he finds himself back in New England where he had a very productive year last season. The Patriots claimed Bennett off the waiver wire a day after the Packers released him and that’s a good fit considering Bennett caught 7 touchdowns passes from Tom Brady a year ago. With Bill Belichick’s team boasting a 6-2 record adding Bennett costs nothings and has the chance to provide a huge impact. Not only is Martellus Bennett an exceptional pass catcher he is also very good blocker. So the Patriots can use Martellus Bennett in a number of different blocking schemes which will create favorable match ups. When you factor in that Martellus Bennett already knows the playbook and terminology of New England’s offense it just makes a lot of sense to bring this guy back on board. The combination of Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett in two tight end sets alone will cause a whole lot of mismatches for opposing defenses and really this move will end up being a steal for this franchise. Martellus Bennett is going to come in and actually be a weapon for Josh McDaniel’s offensive creativity. Obviously the thought of that was too much for the Patriots’ front office to pass up on and now Bennett has a chance to fall in love with football again. There’s just so much more opportunity in Foxborough for Bennett because Tom Brady is healthy. Brett Hundley was struggling to get it done in Green Bay so that almost neutralized Martellus Bennett’s pass catching abilities. One things is for sure and that’s the fact that New England will be very tough moving forward and believe or not this acquisition could push them over the top when it comes to winning a Super Bowl.
