Everyone reacted to Ben Roethlisberger’s elbow injury the same way. All of the media and the press said the Pittsburgh Steelers are done for and they’re probably right. The problem with that statement is it implies that a lack of quarterback is the reason this team will fail and that’s simply not the case. Mason Rudolph is more than ready to step into this lineup but he’s dealing with a watered down roster that couldn’t make the playoffs last year when Roethlisberger was healthy.
So if Pittsburgh wants to give Rudolph a fair chance they need to work a few trades and bring in some better weapons. Because if they do that then there’s a real possibility their backup quarterback could make a little magic happen. If Rudolph is better than Roethlisberger at anything it’s definitely his energy. While one guy is an aging player who’s already done it all. The other is an up and coming talent who is out to make a name for himself. You can see Mason Rudolph’s enthusiasm every time he’s on the field and his teammates typically respond well to that. It’s the same reason he was able to win 10 games three years in a row at Oklahoma State. Then when you watch Rudolph throw the football it becomes obvious he can get the vertical passing game going and create some plays that other quarterbacks can’t do. Meaning the ship hasn’t completely sank yet and maybe, just maybe, Pittsburgh can salvage the situation.
