There’s no denying that Matt LaFleur has started his career off on the right foot. The Green Bay Packers are 3-1 after a tough 34-27 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles. If you asked most fans in Green Bay if they’re happy with the team’s record the feedback would certainly be positive. But Matt LaFleur had a Pete Carroll moment against the Eagles and that cost his team down the stretch. What happened is the Packers had the ball on the 1 yard line after a pass interference call in the end zone.
LaFleur should’ve called four straight handoffs and powered the football in for a touchdown. It’s an old school fundamentals approach but it’s one that would’ve gave Green Bay the results they needed. Instead LaFleur decided to be aggressive and throw the ball and Philadelphia ended up intercepting Aaron Rodgers in what would be one of the most critical plays of the game. An offensive mastermind such as LaFleur has to know better than that but sooner or later mistakes are going to happen. It’s a part of the game and usually the team that limits their errors will be the side that comes out on top. Regardless though LaFleur does deserve a lot of praise for getting Green Bay to 3-1. He’s defied the odds up to this point and it’s a promising sign for an organization who seemed to be heading in the wrong direction. The free agent acquisitions they’ve made on the defensive side of the ball have also played a huge factor.
