There’s plenty of reasons why the Miami Dolphins are on a five-game winning steak. Obviously the defense has been great and that’s the main reason. DeVante Parker and Jakeem Grant have also made an impact in one way or another. But let’s not forget about Myles Gaskin. The former seventh round pick has seized this team’s starting running back position. And he’s done a terrific job after assuming that role. If you’re going to run a college offense and have outside zones and counters of out shotgun formation. Then you need a back that’s more on the athletic side. Gaskin has always been that type of player going all the way back to his days at Washington. He’s a scatback like the great Barry Sanders and the under-appreciated Darren Sproles. Will Gaskin be able to have a career like Sproles had? It’s hard to say but he’s certainly shown some promising signs with the Dolphins. Gaskin is fast enough to get a step ahead of the defense and he’s got incredible balance. He also knows how to manipulate defenders and create running lanes like you have to do in those zone schemes. It takes a unique player to strive in that system. But Gaskin is doing well. That’s why Miami went with him over Jordan Howard, Matt Breida, and rest of the running backs they had on their roster.
