Seattle Seahawks veteran defender Michael Bennett is officially on the trade block and it looks like Pete Carroll will move on from Bennett before free agency begins. This move will certainly be a tough one for the Seahawks because Bennett recorded 8.5 sacks in 2017. However at 32 years old it was the right time for Seattle to part ways with the veteran and still get some decent value in return. Bennett will likely be in exchange for a mid to late round draft pick. The early indication is the Atlanta Falcons are the team that is going to make a run at the 9th year pro. With 54 career sacks Bennett has constantly put pressure on opposing passers and he’s still got a couple of good years left in the tank. With Atlanta losing Dontari Poe to free agency there’s definitely a spot to be filled on the Falcons defensive front. Bennett is well rounded enough where he can play inside at defensive tackle or bump outside and play defensive end. All those abilities will suit the Falcons well but if Bennett doesn’t head to Georgia there’s still some other candidates out there. There’s been reports that Detroit could be in the market for Bennett as well. With Matt Patricia taking over as the head coach of the Lions, adding a talented defender like Bennet would be a smart addition. Ziggy Ansah, A’Shawn Robinson, and Bennett would be a really tough group so there’s definitely some options available for the Seahawks. It’s all about what Seattle’s front office can get in return for Bennett so whoever is willing to give up the most will walk away with the talented pass rusher. It will be interesting to see if Atlanta does make this trade happen or if some other team steps up and makes a big offer? The bottom line is Bennett won’t play in Seattle this season and the future is unknown for the 3x Pro Bowler.
