The Jets will take on the Colts this weekend in a showdown between two lower ranked teams. New York and Indianapolis have combined for three wins and both squads need a victory to limit the damage they’ve taken in those first five games. Obviously Todd Bowles’ game plan has to revolve around stopping Andrew Luck. Indy may have struggled up to this point but Luck is shaking off the rust and it’s only a matter of time before he gets up to speed. That poses such a great threat to New York and now this team has to scheme to eliminate the 3x Pro Bowl quarterback’s ability to throw the football. Knowing Bowles that will likely come in the form of blitzes and man coverage. Therefore if someone can step up and successfully cover Eric Ebron the Jets will be in a good position to come out on top. T.Y Hilton is injured and that’s really hurting the Colts. Those other receivers aren’t the best in the world and Ebron is going to be the biggest threat. So either Jamal Adams or Marcus Maye should drop down and man up with Ebron in passing situations. By assigning one of those better defenders to take away Indianapolis’ greatest strength then they’ll disrupt Luck’s opportunities through the air. The other thing to look out for is whether or not New York can get to Luck with their pass rushers? All of that aggressiveness is for nothing if Avery Williamson, Jordan Jenkins, and Brandon Copeland can’t make it to the quarterback and finish the sack. We know the guys upfront will end up doing their job. Leonard Williams, Henry Anderson, and Steve McLendon always stir up stuff at the line of scrimmage. Those linebackers have to come from a little bit deeper though and they’ll have to get off those blocks and be relentless in their pursuit. If that happens Andrew Luck will be against tough odds.
