Last week the Kansas City Chiefs lost starting Quarterback Alex Smith to a concussion and back up Quarterback Nick Foles came in to maintain the offense. In that game Foles would actually uplift the Chiefs to a higher gear than they’ve been playing at all year and now one has to wonder if Foles is the long term solution in Kansas City? Foles finished last game against the Colts with 223 yards and 2 passing touchdowns looking extremely poised. Foles also completed 72% of his passes in that match up as well so he did a great job of being accurate while throwing the football. When you have a quarterback who is playing at that high of a level, you usually don’t want to go away from them. Part of the game of football is capturing the player with the hot hand and trying to catch lightning in a bottle. That leads you to believe that Foles would be the better option for this football team but there is still one underlining factor that will determine if he is indeed that guy or not. One thing that Alex Smith does very well is limit turnovers, he only has 2 interceptions this season and only threw 7 interceptions all of last year. In order for Foles to be the full time better option, Foles must take care of the football as well as Smith does and if he does that it will be a no brainer that he should lead this football team. Foles is also back with Andy Reid his old coach from their Philadelphia Eagles days. That means Foles is back in a comfortable situation for him and he knows Reid is going to be in corner no matter what. Having the trust and confidence of your coach can do wonderful things for a player’s psyche which of course produces positive results on the field. This game this weekend will be a great opportunity for Foles to solidify himself for the long term and keep an eye on how he preforms against the struggling Jaguars. If Foles can’t get it done against Jacksonville he will have a rough time with the tougher opponents the league has to offer in the future. So the Jaguars will definitely be a measuring stick for Nick Foles.
