The Tennessee Titans had a great year going all the way to the playoffs and beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card Game. However if Tennessee is serious about becoming a Super Bowl contender they have to find a better quarterback. Incumbent Marcus Mariota had a terrible 2017 season throwing for 15 interceptions and only 13 touchdowns. That’s absolutely awful for an NFL starter and any other player would have been benched. Mariota is getting by on his positive reputation but at some point players have to produce on the football field. It feels like Nick Foles or Jay Cutler could be an upgrade for this franchise. Mariota would be an outstanding back up and even though people in Tennessee might be upset with that adjustment. It seems like it’s the right thing to do based off what we seen a year ago. The Titans just brought onboard Dion Lewis and Malcolm Butler. Now this team has to sure up the QB position so they can be competent through the air. While it feels like addressing the other holes on this roster would be ideal, it’s obvious that Super Bowl winning quarterback’s don’t struggle as much as Mariota has lately. This organization isn’t that far away being a championship caliber ball club so getting things right under center has to be the top priority. Lets be honest three seasons is enough time for a player to prove them self and Marcus Mariota just hasn’t done that during his time as a professional football player. Instead Tennessee needs to find a true pocket passer who can beat opposing teams through the air instead of with his feet. Even relying on Mariota is risky because the way he plays is a more injury prone style. Mobile QBs don’t last too long in the NFL because the hits are so massive. All these circumstance make it clear it’s just time to turn the page if you’re the Titans.

The Titans need a better QB if they want to take the next step.

After a slow start to the off-season the New England Patriots have started to pick it up a little bit:

The New England Patriots were sluggish at the start of the NFL off-season but it appears Bill Belichick is finally picking up some momentum. After losing Dion Lewis and Malcolm Butler in free agency the Patriots finally signed Adrian Clayborn and Jeremy Hill. Then New England traded for Cordarrelle Patterson to solidify their passing game. Clayborn is the real splash especially since he is coming off a 9 and a half sack season. Belichick is hoping that Clayborn can bring a physicality to his defensive front. Remember the Patriots defense was exposed against the Eagles so this signing (Clayborn) was meant to address that first and foremost. As far as Jeremy Hill goes he’ll be paired with Rex Burkhead and James White in the offensive backfield. Hill rushed for 29 touchdowns over his first four seasons in the NFL so he he should be a nice addition to the Pats offense. Really Jeremy Hill’s success will come down to how well he can bounce back from the banged up ankle that put him on injured reserve a year ago? Finally Cordarrelle Patterson was brought in to replace the departure of Danny Amendola. Patterson hauled in 309 receiving yards in 2017 but he didn’t catch a single touchdown pass. New England is hoping they can tap into Patterson’s skill set and optimize his abilities. Patterson is also a return specialist so he’ll also help this team from a special teams stand point. Together this group of players are just another example of Bill Belichick finding talent that fits his team rather than just signing superstars. This analytics mindset and team first culture is the reason New England has been one of the greatest dynasties we’ve seen in sports. Now we get to find out if these additions can uplift the Patriots back to the top of mountain? One thing is for certain though landing Clayborn, Hill, and Patterson are definitely going to have a positive effect on this ball club.

So far either the Saints, Titans, or Seahawks are the most likely to sign Ndamukong Suh. Tennessee can pay the most but New Orleans is Suh’s best shot at a championship:

After being released from Miami Ndamukong Suh has been taking his time when it comes to finding his next team. Suh has visited with the Saints and Titans while also taking a number of phone calls with Pete Carroll. The Seahawks are only 2 hours and 40 minutes away from Suh’s hometown of Portland. However Seattle is regressing and it’s not the right time to sign with them unless you’re ok with going through a rebuilding stage. That leaves the Titans and Saints as the top destinations if this guy wants to win a championship. Both organizations were playoff contenders this past season and would be significantly upgraded with the addition of the 5x Pro Bowler (Suh). There’s two other really big factors to take into the talented defensive lineman’s decision. The first thing is the fact that Tennessee has $50 million dollars in cap space available. Which essentially means the Titans can offer Ndamukong Suh a lot more money than the other teams can. Although it’s the Saints who are the most likely to win a Super Bowl especially with Suh being added to the mix. In the past it’s been pretty clear that Suh loves to follow the biggest paycheck and there’s a reason why. Ndamukong Suh has aspirations of being a sports team owner someday and he’s clearly using his time in the NFL to collect funds towards that goal. Ultimately that could lead the top free agent available to sign with the Titans and it will be somewhat similar to when Tennessee brought in Albert Haynesworth. Except this time Suh would end up panning out and giving the Music City what they hoped for. Obviously if Suh has a change of heart and wants to win at all costs right now he’ll go to New Orleans. Anything is possible though and these are just the early indications.

The Cowboys have been quiet this off-season. You have to wonder if they’re making enough moves in Dallas?

The Dallas Cowboys would have probably made the playoffs if Ezekiel Elliott didn’t get suspended last year. However a lot of the Cowboys’ opponents have significantly improved from then until now. One great example is the Philadelphia Eagles who added Michael Bennett and Haloti Ngata. Even the Redskins changed their identity up big time by swapping out Kirk Cousins for Alex Smith. With all these changes going on in the NFC East and the rest of the NFL you have to wonder if Dallas is doing enough to keep up? Retaining Dez Bryant and DeMarcus Lawrence were smart decisions but the Cowboys need some new talent if they are serious about going back to the postseason. This front office only has $8 million in cap space available but that could end up being another wide receiver which is desperately needed. Really there are four main options available in free agency. Those players are Jordan Matthews, Terrelle Pryor, Mike Wallace or Kendall Wright. Out of all those guys Mike Wallace was the most productive in 2017 recording 748 yards and 4 touchdowns. Wallace made $5.75 million annually on his last contact so he should be able to be had for a similar price on a one year deal. This move would make a lot of sense because that boost in offensive production will pay huge returns for the Cowboys. It should also be noted that a one year agreement will allow Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett to reassess Wallace heading into next off-season. If the speedy veteran (Wallace) has big numbers in 2018 Jones and company could bring him back again the following year. Another possibility might be bringing in former Detroit Lion Eric Ebron. With Jason Witten’s pro career winding down Ebron could end up being a nice safety valve for Dak Prescott. Those are the best two choices available for the Cowboys and it will be up to them to bring one of these players onboard.

The Colts made a smart move by trading down in the draft. Indianapolis will now have several additional picks to build their team:

The Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets decided to make a trade in the upcoming draft and you really have to like what the Colts have done. Indianapolis was slated to pick 3rd overall in the draft but exchanged that pick for the Jets 6th, 37th, and 49th selections. The Colts will also get New York’s 2nd overall pick in 2019 so this is a major move for Jim Irsay, Chris Ballard, and Frank Reich. Now this organization (Colts) has a ton of draft capital that’s going to be used to beef up their roster. You have to applaud Ballard for pulling the trigger on this agreement because now Indy has perfectly set up the Reich regime for success. From here it’s about making those draft picks count and bringing in the most talented players available. It appears that will be a lot of offensive players particularly on the offensive line. Jacoby Brissett was sacked 52 times this past season and it doesn’t matter who is under center nobody can achieve anything in that type of environment. So the first thing that needs to happen is the Colts need to get some blockers upfront. Next the running back and wide receiver positions need to be upgraded. If this team can pick up Courtland Sutton and Nick Chubb to fill those holes that would be the perfect way to build on on the good momentum they established with this trade. Imagine if Andrew Luck was dealt too? By parting way with Luck the Colts could pick up even more draft picks and not have to worry about their quarterback’s health. Football is a young man’s game and it would be ideal to keep building through the draft. Ultimately this deal had a great outcome for one side and poor outcome for the other. The Jets gave up way too much but that also translates into a huge victory for the Colts.
