An ESPN article recently came out about the Steelers moving on from Ben Roethlisberger. And we should acknowledge that Pittsburgh can opt out of Roethlisberger’s contract in 2021. But the problem with that is window’s close fast in the NFL. In two or three years a Super Bowl contender can be reduced to nothing. At the moment the Steelers are undefeated and having their best regular season ever. So the thought of Pittsburgh ditching Roethlisberger and going with a rookie seems like a long shot. Could you imagine if G.M Kevin Colbert did get rid of Roethlisberger and then missed on the next quarterback he drafted? There’s just too much risk there and it wouldn’t be a popular decision with the Steelers fanbase. And it’s unlikely a young quarterback would be better than Roethlisberger. He’s bounced back from the elbow injury that cost him the 2019 season. Roethlisberger has been sharp and he’s benefiting from all of the talent that’s around him. With another off-season under this offense’s belt they could be really dangerous. Plus you know the Rooney family is too loyal for that. They’ll never turn their back on Big Ben.
