When we’re talking about the great pass rushers in the NFL it seems like Chandler Jones gets overlooked. Von Miller, Khalil Mack, and Aaron Donald are usually the guys we hear about but it’s time we discuss how good Jones has been. Over the past five years the 29 year old has 65.5 sacks. It’s sad because the Arizona Cardinals poor play has somewhat overshadowed what this man has been able to do. However you can’t take anything away from Jones because if you put him on any other team he would still shine.
From a physical standpoint it’s like he was designed in the lab with the objective of sacking the quarterback. His arms are very long and he’s also good at stripping the football. Before Jones gets there he usually sets offensive tackles up wide and then knifes underneath. Sometimes on film he’ll disengage and go wide but the end result always seems to be the same. Quarterbacks have to hate playing against such a premier athlete because if they don’t see Chandler Jones coming then it can be very dangerous. Nobody wants to take a blindside hit from a 6’5” 265 pounder. People also forget that Jones also racks up a lot of TFLs. So whether it’s against the run or the pass he’s going to be in the offensive backfield creating havoc. It’s tough to execute your game plan with such a disruptive force closing in. It’s time we give Jones his dues because he was left off the NFL Top 100 list this past off-season and that should never happen. That’s almost criminal with how good this guy has been.
