Detroit Lions’ Head Coach Jim Caldwell might be downplaying Kenny Golladay’s big game but the fans of Detroit aren’t having it at all. Golladay caught 2 touchdown catches in the Lions preseason game against the Colts and many insiders following the Lions believe Golladay will be the Lions number 2 receiver entering the regular season. That would be huge for Kenny Golladay because it’s very tough for a rookie receiver to crack the starting line up. Golladay is looking like a rare talent though and the 3rd round pick out of Northern Illinois could end up being a huge weapon for Matthew Stafford this season. The Lions have smaller framed receivers in Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. Golladay is 6’4 213 pounds so he gives Stafford a big target to throw to and Golladay will help minimize the loss of Anquan Boldin who signed with the Bills this off-season. It must be noted that Jake Rudock and Brad Kaaya also had a big day tossing the pigskin for the Lions, so there was clearly a lot of momentum on the offensive side of the ball today for Detroit. As far as the defense went the Lions had a huge setback when Kerry Hyder went down with a lower left leg injury. Hyder led Detroit in sacks a season ago with 8 for the year. It will be tough to replace the defensive lineman but the next man has to step up and make a play. The good news is A’Shawn Robinson looked good upfront for Caldwell’s team, the second year defensive tackle showed a good bull rush throughout the contest. At the end of the day though all the talk around Detroit right now is about Kenny Golladay. Everyone in Michigan knew Golladay was making plays in training camp but to see him dominate in a game has Lions fans really excited about their rookie wide out.
