Former Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams Wide Receiver Sammy Watkins will not be franchise tagged by LA. What that essentially means is Watkins will become a free agent and can be signed by any team. It feels like this is a tough decision for the Rams because they will lose a significant amount of fire power with Watkins not on their roster. Even though Watkins has somewhat underachieved ever since being drafted in the 1st round back in 2014. The Clemson alum will still be regarded as one of the top receivers available on the market because there’s not that many elite pass catchers available. The other notable free agent wide out is Allen Robinson and he is currently returning from a serious knee injury. Therefore Watkins will have interest from a number of organizations who are looking to give their passing game a boost. It feels like Sammy Watkins will return to his old stomping grounds by signing with the Carolina Panthers. If that doesn’t happen expect Watkins to sign with a true competitor. As much as the Bears, Colts, and Jets would like to sign the veteran receiver. It doesn’t seem like Watkins will be willing to play for a losing team after going to the playoffs with the Rams. Two teams that could use an upgrade at the WR position and who are also winning caliber ball clubs are the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans. Jacksonville is losing Robinson and Watkins could fit nicely in that vacancy. The Titans also need weapons around Marcus Mariota to increase their scoring output. So you have to put Carolina, Jacksonville, and Tennessee as the front runners to land Sammy Watkins. Followed by the Ravens, Bears, and Jets. With only a week remaining until players can start signing expect a bidding war to take place for Watkins’ services.
