Most of the big names are off the market but Seattle struck gold when they signed former Detroit Lion Ziggy Ansah. A 6’5” 275 pound freak of nature off the edge and Ansah is the perfect fit in Pete Carroll’s scheme. Very few people fit the mold of a 4-3 defensive end like Ziggy Ansah does.
He’ll fly up in run support and contain the play. This guy is also very good at pinning his ears back and decleating quarterbacks. With 48 sacks in six seasons there’s no denying how talented the 30 year old pass rusher is. The only concern is Ansah’s durability and whether or not he can stay healthy? After missing 16 games in his career it’s an obvious weakness that can sour this signing very quickly. Clearly John Schneider and Pete Carroll felt like Ansah was worth the risk and now they’ll roll the dice on a former top 5 pick (2013 NFL Draft). Seattle also selected L.J Collier in the 2019 NFL Draft but it feels like the front office wanted to give Collier a mentor to learn from. Ansah can teach Collier some pass rushing moves and how to be a professional. If everything pans out it’s possible that this defense will be better than they were a year ago. Frank Clark will be missed but the combination of these two defensive ends (Ansah and Collier) could end up producing even more sacks than what Quinton Jefferson and Clark gave Seattle in 2018. If Pete Carroll really wants to make splash he shouldn’t stop there. Ndamukong Suh is still available and his family is from Oregon. Signing with the Seahawks would be like a homecoming for Suh and you have to remember he played with Ansah in Detroit. That could be a championship winning formula for this franchise.
