Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay are two of the best offensive play callers in the NFL. But Shanahan got the upper hand in the 49ers’ 24-16 win over the Rams. The reason why that was so impressive is because of how many injuries San Francisco is dealing with. Nick Bosa, Richard Sherman, Kwon Alexander, Dee Ford, and Tevin Coleman are all sidelined. Yet the 49ers still found a way to win this game. Los Angeles might have a better record but the fact that San Francisco is holding things together. That’s a reflection of how good Shanahan is. Because if you put McVay in that same situation the results wouldn’t be nearly as convincing. Shanahan also knows how to game plan on level that most other coaches can’t comprehend. It’s the way he spaces the field and how crisp the 49ers’ execution is. Shanahan has also shown that he’s committed to running the football. So he’s more fundamentally sound than McVay is. And
that was clear in San Francisco’s latest win.
