The Detroit Lions went to the playoffs last year but one key player in particular had a down year for Detroit and that player is Ziggy Ansah. Ansah played in thirteen contests last year for Detroit but he only recorded two sacks for the whole season. That was a huge drop from the fourteen and a half sacks that Ansah recorded in 2015 and make no mistake about it the Lions really missed Ansah’s pass rush efforts all season long. The reason Ziggy Ansah missed three games and had such a terrible output is because he suffered a high ankle sprain in a week two match up against the Tennessee Titans. That injury hampered Ansah’s ability to plant his left foot and accelerate like he would normally be able to do if he were healthy, which in the end was the Lions misfortune for all of 2016. The good news for Detroit is it appears Ansah is completely healthy for this upcoming season and he is training with a chip on his shoulder. Ziggy Ansah told the Detroit press that he “has to earn his paycheck” and that comment lets you know that Ansah is taking accountability for his down year and he plans on rebounding. A healthy Ziggy Ansah in peak physical shape will yield great returns for the Lions and expect this guy to be right up there with the Von Millers and Vic Beasleys of the world. Ansah is definitely in that elite class of pass rushers and that’s mostly due to the fact that he is physically superior than most offensive lineman he goes up against. Ziggy Ansah is a 6 foot 5 270 pound edge rusher who runs a 4.63 40 yard dash. Players that size aren’t supposed to move that quickly and that’s why Detroit selected Ziggy Ansah in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Ansah did record two sacks in Detroit’s playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. That is a good indicator that Ansah should be able to get back to playing at a high level and 2017 will be the perfect time for the 27 year old Ansah to showcase his talents once again. There’s no doubt Detroit will get a huge booth from having a healthy Ziggy Ansah on the field.
