Todd Gurley grew up in Tarboro North Carolina which is about 6 hours away from Atlanta. And Gurley also attended the University of Georgia so he’s already got a big following in that area. So when Gurley decided to sign a 1-year $5M contract with the Falcons. It wasn’t too surprising because in a lot of ways this is a homecoming for Gurley. And when you look at what this guy can bring to Atlanta.
The first thing that stands out is how much better their rushing attack will be. Devonta Freeman was wore down and couldn’t give this offense the spark they needed. A lot of people are writing Gurley off because of his knee. But don’t be shocked when he defies the odds and has a big year. It seemed like Gurley was starting to get his speed back at the end of last season. And you have to remember he’s already came back from what easily could’ve been a career ending knee injury in college. Given the progress he’s shown it feels like history will repeat itself with this one. Gurley will overcome his struggles and he’ll bring some balance to the Falcons offense. And then he’ll cash in again during next year’s free agency. Once that happens Atlanta will wish they signed him to a longer contract. Because the price is going up.
