When Martin Mayhew and Jim Caldwell were taking the Detroit Lions to the playoffs. Us fans took it for granted how good we had it. Mayhew played at Florida State and actually won a Super Bowl as a player with the Washington Football Team. That’s much better than Bob Quinn’s football background. In fact Quinn never even played football. In high school he focused on baseball. So even though we were critical of some of Mayhew’s draft picks. He still had a much better eye for talent than Quinn and the record is the proof.

Then we have to take a look at Jim Caldwell’s success in the Motor City. Somehow Caldwell got his players to buy in to what he was selling. That helped Caldwell become one of the best coaches Detroit ever had. Matt Patricia’s strengths are supposed to be his game plans and attention to detail. But we’re figuring out that none of that matters if the guys in the locker room don’t believe in the cause they’re fighting for. It’s clear the Lions aren’t motivated like they were during the Mayhew-Caldwell era. At some point Quinn and Patricia have to be held accountable for those failures. They’ve already had enough chances.
