Another NFL legend has decided to step away from the game and this time it’s Eli Manning. The New York Giants quarterback is ready to hang up his cleats after 16 seasons. Manning has won two Super Bowls and shined on some of the biggest stages. When you think about what made him so special a few things stand out.
Manning was a smart quarterback and he understood how to take advantage of each defenses weakness. He did that by determining what coverage the secondary was using with his pre-snap reads. And it was amazing how quickly he processed all of the information that was available to him. Obviously those were a lot of the same strengths we also saw from his brother Peyton. Then you also have applaud Manning for always going to the right spot with the football. So many times quarterbacks will try to force their throws into impossible windows. The Giants never had to worry about that because they had a guy who usually came up big for them. If you go back and watch Super Bowl XLII and XLVI. You’ll notice that Manning stepped up for New York so many times. Whether it was the game winning throw to Plaxico Burress or the David Tyree catch. Manning was able to do what it takes to get the job done. That will be the story that follows Eli Manning. He’ll always be remembered for how clutch he was.
