The Los Angeles Chargers have made it clear that they won’t bring back Philip Rivers. And that means this team will be in the market for another quarterback. GM Tom Telesco said he likes some of the “internal candidates” they have on their roster. Which is obviously great news for Tyrod Taylor. However Taylor has been ran out of Buffalo and Cleveland. So if the Chargers are serious about competing they need to upgrade the position. A great option for them would be Jameis Winston. The Bucs probably won’t re-sign him and he’s coming off a 5,000 yard season.
The upside is definitely there but Los Angeles will have to find a way to stop Winston from throwing interceptions. And by signing this guy in free agency it will allow the Chargers to draft anyone they want. If they go with Taylor instead that won’t be the case (A QB has to be taken). So everything makes sense when you examine the big picture and it’s a chance for this franchise to hit the reset button. The Rivers era is over and the last thing LA wants to do is go into the season and realize how much they miss him. Signing Jameis Winston will certainly soften the blow.
