The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl run was a little bit unusual. Andy Reid’s football team trailed in every single playoff game and the Super Bowl was no different. In fact San Francisco was the better team in this contest for about three quarters. But you know the Chiefs are so hard to put away. Thanks to 21 points in the last 15 minutes Kansas City was able to pull off the unthinkable. And for as bad as Patrick Mahomes was for most of the night he overcame all of that when the pressure was on. Mahomes found Tyreek Hill on a number of big throws during crunch time. Eventually he would also hit Travis Kelce for a touchdown to make the game achievable late in the 4th quarter.
And when Kansas City got the ball back trailing 20-17 with about 4 minutes left you just got the feeling that something great might happen. From that point on Patrick Mahomes would connect with Sammy Watkins to get down in the red zone. Then the Chiefs took the lead thanks to a throw in the flats to Damien Williams. Once that happened you knew the game was over. But Williams wasn’t done yet. He ripped off another touchdown and finished the 49ers once and for all. Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes both won their first Super Bowl and it feels like this is just the beginning of something special. Don’t be surprised if those two get three or four Vince Lombardi Trophies before their reign is over.
