he Arizona Cardinals and Patrick Peterson have been growing apart for a long time. Just last year Peterson demanded a trade out of Arizona but no deal ended up materializing. Since then Peterson apologized to the Cardinals fan base for wanting to leave but the front office hasn’t forgotten. That’s why Peterson’s latest issue could be the breaking point for both sides.
The 8x Pro Bowler (Peterson) was recently suspended the first six games of the season for performance enhancing drugs. Obviously that puts a little bit of an asterisk next to Patrick Peterson’s accomplishments but the main thing it does is damage his relationship with the team that drafted him. At this point the 28 year old cornerback might not care that much because he already wanted to play for someone else. Although it’s probably not the way Peterson wanted things to unfold and he’ll be sidelined for almost half of the games in 2019. It’s very possible when he does return to action Arizona could ship him out right before the trade deadline. Imagine if someone like the New England Patriots acquired this guy and paired him up with Stephon Gilmore. The Cardinals might not get that much trade value for Peterson because he’s getting a little bit older and because his reputation took a hit after juicing. It seems like a real New England kind of move to send over a third or fourth round pick for an elite performer. Bill Belichick covets the cornerback position because you need players who can cover in such a pass orientated league. Clearly that’s a ways away but it’s something that could happen later on down the line. You have to believe there would be a handful of other suitors who would also like to add a star defender to their defense. Therefore it’s very possible that this is the last season we see Peterson in an Arizona jersey.
