It’s been a while since the Tennessee Titans had competent wide receivers that could make plays in the passing the game. In today’s era that’s so important because offenses are out of shotgun quite a bit. Therefore you need at least two or three guys that can get open and catch the football. Luckily for the Titans Corey Davis is finally becoming someone they can depend on and the front office just picked A.J Brown in the second round of the draft to give Marcus Mariota someone opposite of Davis.

Collectively this group has improved a lot by pairing those two receivers up and you have to like the way things are heading. It’s possible that Brown ends up being better than Davis too. Corey Davis is the NCAA’s all-time receiving leader with 5,278 yards but he did that facing Mid-American Conference opponents. So far those skills that made Davis a star at Western Michigan University haven’t translated over to the pros like Tennessee hoped they would. Whereas Brown played against some of the best the country had to offer in the Southeastern Conference. Don’t underestimate just how important that is and Brown was incredible during his time at Ole Miss. Teams didn’t know how to cover the Rebels main target (Brown) and that’s why he’s coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. Now the challenge for both of these players will be working with Marcus Mariota. Tennessee hasn’t gotten enough from the former first round pick (Mariota) and that’s holding this offense back. Mike Vrabel brought in Ryan Tannehill to light a fire under Mariota and clearly that’s a warning sign from the coaching staff. With all this talent on the outside Mariota has to produce this year or risk losing his job. At least we know Davis and Brown give whoever is under center a fair shot at success. If Tennessee has to go out and get a new QB next off-season then that player would be coming into a better situation than in the past. Which means the Titans good decision making is starting to pay off.
