NFL free agency is in full swing and the Philadelphia Eagles made a splash by signing former Jacksonville Jaguar Malik Jackson. This is a great pick up because it gives the Eagles a serious advantage when it comes to the defensive tackle position. Jackson is a rare combination of speed and power who will make a habit out of pressuring quarterbacks. He can fight through double teams and when it comes to actually finishing sacks, Jackson has enough speed to close in and make it happen. Those are plays Philadelphia needs to tilt the odds in their favor and you have to remember they still have Fletcher Cox.
Together Cox and Jackson will give the Eagles a better defensive front especially after Timmy Jernigan failed to produce anything in 2018. Howie Roseman is hoping that he can get this team back to the Super Bowl and right now it feels like they’re closer than they were. Brandon Graham and Chris Long are going to be on the edges too so you can see how tough that group is going to be on game day. The bottom line is there’s won’t be much room to operate against this defensive line and they’ll also be able to run some awesome loops and twists on passing downs. Not to mention Cox and Jackson can bull rush offensive linemen right into the quarterback’s lap and that constant pressure will be so disruptive. Ultimately that will limit the opposing offense’s playbook and it’s hard to win when you can’t execute your game plan. If that’s doesn’t excite Eagles fans the team also traded for DeSean Jackson. The veteran wide receiver will return to the franchise that drafted him back in 2008 and things are starting to look up for this organization. With a strong draft who knows this team could be making another deep playoff run before we know it.
