Subway Open More Than 9,000 New Restaurants

With approximately 37,000 restaurants in over 100 countries, Subway is second only to McDonald's with over 38,000.

The sandwich chain may be aiming for #1 with its plans for thousands of new restaurants worldwide.

Subway revealed this week that it has signed 15 master franchise agreements in two years. It stated the current arrangement will add over

4,000 restaurants throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Caribbean within 20 years.

And it's not stopping at 4,000 openings. Subway's 15 master franchise agreements promise almost 9,000 restaurants, the firm said. The timing

for all 9,000 openings was unclear, but Subway fans worldwide should expect to see more of those distinctive green and yellow emblems.

"There is significant opportunity for Subway to expand its presence around the world and the new master franchise agreements reflect

operators' confidence in Subway and our transformation journey," Subway CEO John Chidsey said. "We are excited to grow the brand with

new and existing international multi-unit and multi-brand operators to serve more guests around the world as we execute our international expansion

With plans to rebuild 3,600 North American restaurants this year, the firm is modernizing its image. This would increase the "current Subway image"
