If you go back to Super Bowl LI. James White had 3 touchdowns but Tom Brady won the MVP award. And the same exact thing happened last night when Damien Williams was the Chiefs best player in the Super Bowl but Patrick Mahomes was named the MVP. The truth is quarterbacks get all of the credit because that position is the face of the league. But there’s no denying that Williams shined when it mattered the most.
While Mahomes took about three quarters before getting it going. Williams came out of the gate hot and he was the one guy who was able to continuously beat the 49ers defense. If you take those plays away then there’s no chance that Kansas City wins the game. And when the Chiefs had the lead late in the 4th quarter. Williams is the one who took matters into his own hands and made sure he put San Francisco away once and for all. Right now America is morning the loss of Kobe Bryant and Williams was the closest thing we saw to “Mamba Mentality.” The stakes were high but the former undrafted free agent was as cold as ice. With all due respect to Patrick Mahomes and all he was able to accomplish. It’s our job to recognize who was the MVP of that one game (the Super Bowl) and the eye test made it obvious it was Damien Williams.
